At YWTT inclusion matters because every individual deserves to feel valued, supported, and able to thrive.
We believe that truly inclusive environments do not take a one‑size‑fits‑all approach; instead, they recognise and respond to individual needs, strengths, and experiences. That is why we have appointed a dedicated Inclusion Champion. Their role is to listen, advocate, and facilitate bespoke, tailored support, working closely with individuals and the YWTT Leadership and in-school teams to remove barriers and create a positive environment from the application process through to graduation. Through this commitment, we aim to ensure that inclusion is not just a principle we believe in, but a practice that shapes everything we do.
Steve Teasdale is our Inclusion Champion and he can be contacted by emailing our administrator via sally.cooper@ywtt.org.uk in the first instance.
Our Inclusion Champion is able to provide support in the following areas:
Application & Interview Support
Preparation
for the Course
On-programme Support
We recognise that the great teachers across all schools come from a variety of backgrounds and that these help to shape the workforce. We actively encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, and we particularly welcome applications from groups that are under-represented in the teaching profession across the local region.
We are committed to removing barriers and ensuring that everyone is able to fulfil their potential in the classroom which is why we don’t offer a ‘one size fits all approach’ to teacher training and tailor the provision to meet the needs of our trainees. We regularly undertaken trainee voice discussions which help shape our provision.
We ensure that placements provide safe, respectful and inclusive environments where trainees are supported to thrive as emerging professionals. Through these commitments, we aim not only to support diverse trainee teachers, but also to prepare them to become advocates for equality, dignity and opportunity for all pupils.
